Enjoy a week long yoga retreat including practices of Mindfulness, Yoga Nidra and Hatha Yoga in the stunning area of Ogliastra, Sardinia.
We are a small non-profit association, comprising of one Yoga & Mindfulness Teacher and one Reiki Master and Holistic Therapist; we are not a big company shipping in different teachers each week, when you come on a yoga retreat with us, it’s us that you will get!! We prefer to work with smaller groups, of between 1 and 10 people, that way we can spend some time with each person offering individual mentoring and guidance. We never cancel our retreats because of low numbers, for us it is about quality and not quantity, we want our guests to completely relax and have time to reflect and re-centre, to press the pause button on the stresses of our modern world. So if you are looking for a yoga retreat which is all about excitement and thrills then we are not the choice for you! Our focus is on internal peace and not external distractions.
Each morning you will have a class focusing on yoga postures (asana). The classes will be suitable for people new to yoga and experienced practitioners alike, initially with simple positions, which help to develop strength and flexibility, and always with compassionate self-awareness and respect for our current physical limitations. There are sitting postures (sitting or kneeling), standing and supine (lying posture) postures, and balances. Each asana has several advantages and works with various muscles and organs of the body. Each asana can be changed for the differing levels of ability of each individual, and over time flexibility and strength will increase; patience, acceptance and compassion are the key.
Then you will have a class with a specific themed mindfulness practice. There will be a guided meditation and time for group discussion and further explanation on each of the practices and how you can apply it to everyday life and situations. Mindfulness Practice has been demonstrated to have significant benefits on physical, emotional and holistic health.
In the afternoons you can continue working with the theme in your own time, or book a one to one mentoring session to discuss your experiences with the practice. Or alternatively you can get out and about or take one of the optional excursions on offer.
In the evening you will also practice breathing exercises (pranayama). These practices can be done sitting or lying down and there are many different exercises of pranayama, all of which have enormous benefits for health, reducing stress and emotional well-being. After Pranayama you finish with a specific guided relaxation called Yoga Nidra, meaning Yogic sleep, which works profoundly with the body and mind, inducing a deeply relaxed state.

Ogliastra, which is often referred to as the “island within and island” offers the heart, soul and eyes an abundance of pleasures. It is sheltered away from the overcrowded tourist areas like Costa Smeralda, Olbia, Alghero & Cagliari and offers some of the best beaches on the island in our opinion! The east coast offers protection form the “Maestrale” winds that often batter the western coast, the sea is a transparent turquoise and, unlike Costa Smeralda, this area has miles and miles of sandy beaches. Cardedu & Bari Sardo beaches offer the opportunity to walk over 10km of beach without interuption! The area offers a diverse range of natural attractions; Mountains for walkers, mountain bikers and climbers, woodlands for nature lovers and explorers, beaches galore for sun worshippers. There are a wealth of activities from the scenic train trips to boat trips, diving, kayaking, climbing and horse riding, to name but a few! It is, perhaps, the perfect location for those needing an oasis of nature, calm and bliss, far away from all the modern glitz and constant barrage of materialistic pressures and demands of our modern western society.
There are 3 airports on the island of Sardinia, the closest is Cagliari, followed by Olbia and Alghero.
The hotel offers an optional transfer service at an additional cost, however we strongly recommend hiring a car as it generally works out much cheaper than transfers and allows you total freedom to explore the stunning local area at your leisure.
The hotel we partner with, Galanias Hotel & Retreat, is focused on providing a relaxed and homely experience for it’s guests. The staff and management are passionate about their clients feeling as if they were honoured guests, experiencing fully the generous nature of the Sardinian people, sharing in their love of the local produce such as fruits, vegetables, wine and olive oils grown and produced locally, and in some cases by the owners on their own land. The hotel owners are extremely keen to develop a sustainable and self sufficient business, already producing much of their own electricity by way of solar energy.
The hotel is situated 4 km from the town of Barisardo and 600 m from the sea and the beach. Tortolì and the port of Arbatax are at 10 km.
Overlooking the coast and the beautiful beach of La Torre di Barì, the hotel has been conceived as a peaceful oasis, surrounded by the Mediterranean maquis. Built in the typical Sardinian style, it is composed by three buildings: in two of them there are 33 rooms and in the main building are the other 10 rooms with all services and facilities such as reception, bar, lounge and the restaurant next to the swimming pool with a private corner and terrace for those wishing to enjoy a romantic meal together.
Galanias Hotel has created a brand new space this year for Yoga & Meditation. With fantastic views of the sea, the Saracen tower and the surrounding Mediterranean countryside it is a relaxing, peaceful place for practice.
Vegetarian, Vegan and Coeliac menus are available; please ensure you tell us at the time of booking of any dietary requirements as the hotel may not be able to cook for special diets without notice.
