These superb cycle tours take place in the heart of the countryside of the wonderful Dordogne and Lot regions in south-west France. The area is dominated by the magnificent Dordogne and Lot rivers and their stunning valleys. It is quite simply an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Most tours start and end in the market town of Gourdon. The town has been built in tiers around a hill, where once a castle and ramparts stood. From the viewing platform at the top of the hill, there are fabulous views of the surrounding Bouriane.

A short distance away is the beautiful town of Sarlat which is famous for its medieval architecture and has the highest concentration of medieval, renaissance and 17th-century façades in France. Every Saturday, its lively street market attracts both locals and tourists to the town.

As you start to explore the Dordogne valley, you will pass through one picturesque village after another. The town of La-Roque-Gageac contains some fascinating architecture, and it is worth visiting its exotic gardens and the troglodyte fort built into the cliff face.

Visible from much of the Dordogne valley is the stunning hilltop town of Domme. Within its well-preserved stone walls, the town seems unchanged over the centuries and much has been done to retain its authentic atmosphere. From the town, the views of the river valley below are breathtaking.

The Dordogne valley has an impressive concentration of châteaux and your tour will allow you enough the time to explore several along the way. Choose from Montfort, Fénelon, Biron, Bonaguil, Hautefort, Castelnau-Bretenoux, Beynac, Castelnaud, Marquayssac and Les Millandes. Beynac and Castelnaud were on opposing sides during the Hundred Years War, Marquayssac has gorgeous gardens and Les Millandes was once the home of Josephine Baker and her “Rainbow Tribe”.

Traveling along the Lot valley, you will certainly want time to visit Rocamadour. The town clings to the rock face overlooking the Ouysse gorge – and is the site of an ancient pilgrimage. The splendid “rouge” village of Collonges-la-Rouge is also worth making a detour for along with Cahors, St-Cirq-Lapopie, Puy-l’Evêque and the magical riverside village of Cressensac.

We are confident that the Dordogne and Lot valleys will enchant you throughout your tour – and we’re certain that you’ll want to return here again and again!

The accommodation we book for you is chosen to suit all tastes – from delightful chambres d’hôtes (Bed & Breakfast), to superb deluxe hotels. Each accommodation is delightful and the staff and owners are friendly and attentive. At each place you stay the aim of the hoteliers is to make your stay as wonderful as possible.

All the hoteliers are known to us personally and each hotel has an excellent restaurant, highly respected within the local community for their exceptional cuisine. If you enjoy sampling a range of regional produce, we can plan your tour to coincide with as many bustling village markets as possible.

Other Information

These Cycle Holiday Tours are owned and run by an Anglo-French couple that have lived in the region since 1991 and have worked in the tour business since 1996. As well as knowing the area intimately, they guarantee you an attentive service from the moment you book your tour with them… to the moment you head home after an unforgettable holiday! In addition, as well as being excellent value for money, each tour is personalised to suit your own individual requirements – a major feature that few other tour companies can rival.

The region is one of the most beautiful in France, with marvelous surprises at every turn. The tours have been conceived to incorporate as many experiences of French lifestyle, culture, history and cuisine as possible.

“We had an absolutely fabulous time and the area could not have been more beautiful to experience on a bicycle. You are an amazing tour director, and the personal touch to everything you did for us, we are incredibly grateful. Again, Thank you for everything.”
Martha Dummer & Spencer Martin, Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA

“What a spectacular, fascinating region the Dordogne is! So much to see and do. The trip was just the right combination of quiet, efficient organisation (good bikes, well planned and well described itineraries, charming hotels, etc) and the opportunity and flexibility to plan each day to cycle and explore as we wanted. We had a wonderful time.”
Garry Christensen, Brussels, Belgium

“Just returned from a great few weeks in France, with our cycling trip a highlight. We had our two children with us, who were less enthusiastic about distance and hills, but they enjoyed themselves very much. The various alternative routes meant we could do some extra cycling without the children so everyone was happy. We particularly lovedyour ability to customize our tour to our precise dates and accommodation requests. It couldn’t have been better. We’ll be back.”
Kerry and Clint, Melbourne, Australia
