Our biking holidays are held in the Mountains of Alicante, officially known as “La muntanya d’Alacant” in the Valencian language, which simply translates as the Alicante Mountains. The region is located in the north west of the province of Alicante, and is about equal distance between the cities of Valencia and Alicante. Traveling to your holiday here is simple as both of these cities and their international airports are between 1 and 1.5 hours drive away.
This majestic mountain region of Spain remains largely undiscovered by cyclists due to the overwhelming predominance of the coastal tourism on the Costa Blanca and the reputation that it brings with it. These classic limestone mountains provide a wonderfully varied terrain for mountain bikers and road cyclists and provide all the challenges of better known mountain ranges. Although modest in height (up to 1558m), the views to be seen from this region are incredible. On a clear day you can see the Mediterranean sea and sometimes as far as the island of Ibiza. Rugged peaks, narrow ravines, gorges, ridges and broad terraced valleys dotted with small villages untouched by time can all be found, as well as many remnants of its Moorish, Roman and Iberian past.
First time visitors to the region often express surprise at the lack of other riders and visitors. The feeling of wilderness still prevails today although we are never very far from ‘civilisation’.
During the spring wild flowers including many rare species and orchids abound. Bird life in the region is abundant with Golden Eagles and other birds of prey often seen whilst riding. You may also encounter Griffon vultures on their autumn migration. Between late April and through to June you will hear nightingales wherever you go, and if you are very lucky you may catch sight of the illusive Golden Oriole. It’s an excellent base for a birdwatching holiday combining the rich variety of the mountain region with superb birding to be experienced at the Albufera of Valencia which is just a little over one hours drive from Quatretondeta.
Your holiday is based in Quatretondeta, a small, pretty mountain village located in the heart of the Mountains of Alicante. It is surrounded by hills and mountainsides dotted with small olive terraces. It has been described by Spanish writers as a place where “the time goes by on tiptoe”.
Directly above Quatretondeta on the Sierra Serrella you encounter the limestome pinnacles which form a natural phenomena that are the “Els Frares” which you will see every day - a reminder of the rugged beauty of this place.
This biking holiday in Spain is held in a place that you will want to return to again and again!

It has been described by Spanish writers as a place where “the time goes by on tiptoe”.
The main charm of Quatretondeta and the rest of the valley is the tranquility and serenity of the atmosphere, which is only disturbed by the few cars that pass by. The small River Seta crosses the through the village boundary at the bottom, and the village perches above, sheltered from the North and East.
Quatretondeta is a perfect starting point for exploring the Sierra Serrella and surrounding mountains. The Sierra Serrella has 3 different peaks, the Serrella at 1359 metres, the Pla de la Casa, the highest at 1379 metres and the Malla de Llop at 1360 metres. On a clear day you can see the surrounding mountain region, the Mediterranean and as far as the island of Ibiza. You can also climb up and through the rock formations known as “Els Frares” or the Friars. These pinnacles created by erosion stand between 10 and 100 meters high.
Not only is the village a great base for exploring the most emblematic mountain of the region of “La Muntanya d’Alacant”, it also provides a central base for exploring the entire mountain region most of which is accessible in about 45 minutes’ drive at its most extreme points. It is a paradise for road cyclists and mountain bikers, walkers and hikers alike.
Quatretondeta is located just 60 minutes drive north of Alicante airport or 75 minutes south from Valencia airport. There is major road access and the nearest motorway junction is 15 minutes away at nearby Cocentaina. It is also possible to travel by train to Alcoy from Valencia.
