Bangka Island is located off the coast of North Sulawesi in Indonesia. With the regional capital of Manado being nearby, the area is bustling and well-developed. The island itself is around 9km long with a peak rising to 350m (accessible for a hike of around 3 hours). Our diving holidays resort is located in a well-protected bay facing southeast towards Lembeh with views of the Minahasan volcanoes creating a dramatic backdrop.
Bangka Island is a naturalist’s paradise, with as much to see above the waterline as below.
With daily flights to and from Singapore, the international airport in Manado (MDC) is well serviced. From there we will meet you and handle your transport to Bangka island, with a 45-minute drive to the north coast and then a short (30-45 minute) boat transfer to the resort. Transfers from and to the airport are complementary for guests purchasing our 7 night packages.
Our diving holidays are founded on the principle of offering a comfortable, relaxed and happy atmosphere.
We offer clean and comfortable accommodation in our spacious wooden bungalows which welcome you with fantastic views after a long day’s diving. They are built in the traditional Minahasan style and have their own en-suite bathrooms with shower and Western style toilets, and they are all new for 2013. Our bungalows have fans, double beds and two have an extra room with a single bed. Take in the view from your own balcony hammock and unwind surrounded by nature – remember to keep your eyes open for our resident tarsiers in the treetops
Dry out and unwind in the bar on our secluded beach with fantastic views towards Lembeh and experience delicious local cuisine fresh from our kitchen. We have a beachfront restaurant where you can reminisce over the day’s dives with our well-stocked bar offering a range of original and classic cocktails.
Our kitchen serves a variety of tasty Minahasan dishes including traditional satay, chicken curries as well as traditionally barbecued fresh fish served with fiery sambal. Look out for Western favourites as well!
These friendly scuba diving holidays in Indonesia is owned and run by husband and wife team Sophie and Simon who share a passion for diving and adventure. They left the UK in search of somewhere to set up their dream diving resort and after living and travelling extensively in Southeast Asia, were drawn to Bangka and North Sulawesi.
Sophie is a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer and has been diving since the age of 11, recording thousands of dives and graduating scores of happy new divers in her work in Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Fiji and the UK. She loves seeing people dive for the first time and helping them discover the underwater world!
Simon is a motorcycle engineer who decided that there is more to life than nuts and bolts. He was hooked by diving from the off and is a Divemaster who has a knack of spotting unusual underwater critters. After discovering free-diving on honeymoon in Thailand, he can be seen early in the mornings disappearing beneath the waves before breakfast.

We had an excellent time – everything was taken care of from the moment we were picked up directly from the airport and delivered to our brand new beach-front cottage. The focus is based heavily on providing world class diving, coupled with great hospitality. We stayed for two weeks and dived most of the local sites – a wide range of geography with many different reefs, multiple pinnacle dives, drifts and deep cave entrances. We saw a staggering array of unusual species – from the resident dolphins and dugong on the house reef and stubborn frog fish, inquisitive turtles and bump-headed parrot fish, to the incredible pygmy seahorses and beautiful nudis. Indonesian Divemasters were on hand with local knowledge to point out things that we would have swam right past, and contributed to a very well organised operation. The food was good quality home-made local cuisine and plenty of it. The location is perfect – it’s bang in the middle between Bunaken and Lembeh, and although we didn’t visit either this time, we will be back to take advantage of these day trips next time!

Sophie taught me the Open Water Diver course. She was a great instructor, as she explained everything properly and has endless amounts of patience – I used to get quite confused when putting my kit together! On top of that, Sophie knows so much about marine life and has an infectious enthusiasm for diving that you can’t help be inspired by. I am looking forward to doing the Advanced course here soon too.

Sophie is the most reassuring, fun, enthusiastic and special dive instructor that I have ever met. Her professionalism coupled with her personal approach led to a successful open water course being completed and the love for diving being firmly engrained into my life.

The team are friendly, professional and we had a great time diving with them. We loved the accommodation, the food was fantastic and we would recommend them to anyone whose priorities are great diving, great food and great company. Thank you!

Sophie is a very competent instructor. She is warm and friendly and has the ability to teach people on a range of levels. Sophie really makes everyone feel safe and a part of the group. I would recommend Sophie as a diving instructor especially if you are a little nervous being your first time!
